What is a 3D 4D ultrasound?

An ultrasound is a procedure that allows medical professionals to take images of soft tissue using inaudible soundwaves. This imaging technique is used widely as it can provide outstanding images without the use of radiation.

This is especially important when conducting pregnancy ultrasounds to gather information on your baby, such as gender determination and analysing development.

There are currently no known risks or negative effects of having an ultrasound, which is why it is such a frequently used imaging technique not just for pregnancy, but also for other soft tissue conditions.

Ultrasound Imaging Technology

Here at Mermaid Beach Radiology, we apply our expertise to contribute to innovative research in the use of imaging technology.

Our advances in these new technologies provide radiology services that allow us to make a quick diagnosis at risk. Some features in our packages include those that involve 3D or 4D scan imagery. Our images are captured in real-time, which gives us the potential for a more in-depth, detailed diagnosis.

These updates and advancements in technology are an important part of the service we provide, with many of our technologies having been developed as recently as in the past few years. It gives more comfort for both the patient and their family, which allows your doctor a greater level of information enabling them to provide better treatment.

What to expect during a 3D/4D ultrasound

Pregnancy ultrasound scans

Ultrasounds are a frequent part of the conversation when discussing one’s pregnancy journey. In fact, for most people, the mention of ultrasound comes as a common association when having a baby.

Ultrasounds are an important part of this process for many people as it provides you with the option to find out the gender of your baby. Gender determination for many people is an important part of the pregnancy journey; it can feel like a great bonding experience with the baby, particularly for new parents to feel more prepared, and share the gender with loved ones.

However, if the gender determination of your baby is not an important factor in your experience, then that is by no means a necessity. Instead, ultrasound images can be used solely to ensure that the baby is healthy, and everything is going as planned.

Other ultrasound scans

Ultrasounds are not solely used for when you are having a baby. They are very useful and commonly used during the process of diagnosing a range 0f soft tissue conditions, including but not limited to: muscles, the breast, and the abdominal and pelvic areas.

Depending on what body part is being examined, you may be required to do some preparation at home before your appointment. This could include having nothing to eat or drink during a specified time period before your appointment. But don’t worry, this information will be discussed with you by a member of our team when you make a booking.
